Sun protection also includes hats, clothing, and sunglasses. Sunglasses not only protect your eyes, but also the skin around your eyes from wrinkles and pigmentation. Don’t forget to protect your lips! If you want to look tan, step away from the tanning bed and slather on some self-tanner.
2. Nutrition really does matter
Diet plays a huge role in our skin. Foods with healthy fats, like avocado, nuts, and salmon, contain essential fatty acids that help to build up our skin’s moisture barrier. Fruits and vegetables contain loads of antioxidants and water. It is crucial to keep our bodies hydrated. While drinking water doesn’t directly affect our skin’s hydration levels, water helps to flush toxins and transport oxygen and nutrients to our cells. Cutting down on sugar intake helps to reduce inflammation. By keeping the inside of the body hydrated and nourished, the outside can have that healthy glow.
3. No smoking (or vaping)
Smoking rapidly ages the skin and slows down healing time. It decreases the amount of oxygen in the blood and constricts blood vessels leading to wrinkles, dullness, and discoloration. The reduced healing time negatively effects the procedure outcome and can lead to increased side effects and complications.
4. Get checked
Make an appointment with a dermatologist for a yearly skin check. They will monitor any moles or skin changes which can lead to early detection of skin cancer. Make sure you are doing routine self-checks as well!
5. Turn the temperature down
The use of super-hot water to wash your face, shower, or take a bath strips your skin of its natural oils. Central heating and fireplaces can also dry out the skin. The dry air can deplete the skin’s moisture levels. When the skin is dried out, it is left vulnerable to dryness, itchiness, irritation, and dullness. It is crucial to moisturize the skin quickly after toweling off. For the best results, leave the skin slightly damp before applying moisturizer. The moisturizer will lock in that moisture giving the skin that healthy glow. Try iS Clinical’s Body Complex for a fabulous hydrating, smoothing, and protecting skin treat. Body Complex contains powerful antioxidants, gentle chemical exfoliators, and excellent hydrators to revitalize, protect against future damage, and brighten the skin.
Tip: A humidifier is a great way to add moisture back into the air. Try adding a humidifier in your bedroom to help combat dry, dull skin.
6. Self-care is not selfish
Our bodies release cortisol when we are stressed. If cortisol stays active for too long, it wreaks havoc on our skin. Stress speeds up the aging process by slowing the production of collagen and elastin, which lessens elasticity and forms wrinkles. Cortisol can also increase oil production leading to clogged pores and blackheads. Find some stress relief in things that you enjoy or relax you like getting a massage, hiking, cooking, or reading a book. Try out a Honey Enzyme Facial for the ultimate pampering, but results-driven treatment.
